When it comes to education, what is the objective? Isn't it student learning? Why do students hate coming to school? As an educator, I want to change the paradigm of school. Education can no longer be a "necessary evil" or drudge-like experience we make our kids go through just because we did or our parents did.
School needs to be a real place of learning... or they will learn somewhere else.
I recently finished Most Likely to Succeed by Tony Wagner and Ted Dintersmith. It has transformed my teaching and educational philosophy. We are teaching for a new generation! Wake up! We need to change education, not reform it. We need a revolution not a reformation.
Check out the trailer of the documentary of the same name as the book. Best read ever.
Imagine training ten (10) new teachers from various levels of experience and knowledge in education. How could these teachers be oriented in so many things?
Make a teacher training website.. Over the Christmas break, I made the kind of website that would help any new teacher at my school understand what they are getting into. Call it a Teacher Primer. Making websites are something you should look into to maintain sustainability in communicating traditions, history, expectations, and standard training.
How has digital portfolios helped you?

I was presenting to the Tech club on Tuesday and showed Steve Jobs' story. He took the complicated and made it simple for the rest of us. He took something and made it better. I stopped the video and asked the kids....what is something now...a problem or obstacle...that you can make easier?
I showed them the "Coolest"...a cooler with 2 USB chargers, a Blue tooth speaker, a blender attachment blade, and a mini generator. It was pretty awesome.
The possibilities are endless!
Next week on Thursday we are going to Google in LA. I hope this sparks the creator in them.
